Forgotten Lyrics

This evening I was informed of the "lost" lyrics to Wheels of the Bus:

The poop on the bus goes click, click, click
The poop on the bus goes click, click, click
The poop on the bus goes click, click, click
All through the town.

Do you see why we need a musical education program in our house?

So where is that project? Here's the line up so far, subject to constant editing:

Respect, Aretha Franklin
I Feel For You, Chaka Khan
Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You, Lauryn Hill
Umi Says, Mos Def
Beautiful, Snoop Dogg
Higher Ground, Stevie Wonder
Shining Star, Earth, Wind & Fire
The Girl From Ipanema, Astrud Gilberto
Sunday Girl, Blondie
Graceland, Paul Simon
(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear, Elvis Presley
Keep the Customer Satisfied, Simon & Garfinkel
Up On Cripple Creek, The Band
On the Road Again, Willie Nelson

I am not thrilled with that S&G selection (not because I don't like them but because it makes the mix more Paul Simon-dependent than I find acceptable), but I am still trying to find something that links Elvis to The Band.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I am hampered a bit by not owning all that music, so if you have some technologically legal way of getting it to me, sweet sweetness. I am also working on a hip hop mix, which, upon reflection, is possibly not child-friendly.

UPDATE: Teddy Bear segues into Up On Cripple Creek just fine on its own, thanks.

Poop goes click? That is an interesting interpretation of what happens on the bus....

I am totally psyched to get a copy of this mixtape. I remember dancing around to Teddy Bear as a kid. Not that it helped me musically or in terms of dancing ability.

Thanks for saving Jillian from certain musical doom.

I am reminded of the mix tape you made for me when I moved to Virginia. I think you were worried about my musical education back then. Up on Cripple Creek was definitely on it. Also: Native Nod. I think Li needs to learn the words to El Camino, too.

Happy Birthday Lorin! What else was on there? Definitely a Tsunami song or two, right? Or eight?

Our little guy Jonah just started going to "school," in the form of a twice weekly Parent and Tot class at a near-by Jewish Day School. On the first day, the teacher led the kids in a singing of the song, "The Wheels on the Bus." They completed the verse that goes "The babies on the bus go waa waa waa," and moved on to the next verse. A grandma who was there with her grandchild sang the next verse as: "The mommies on the bus say shh, shh, shh." But the teachers sang: "The parents on the bus say I LOVE YOU." Evidently, new concepts about parenting have replaced "shh, shh, shh" with "I love you," and new gender roles have replaced "mommies" with "parents." I sang my favorite verse, which is "The driver on the bus goes glug, glug, glug," while making a motion like I am drink booze out of a paper bag. No one else knew that verse, and my wife scowled at me.

When we sing it, the mommy says, hush now baby, AND THEN, to keep the song going as long as possible, the daddy says, I love you. In honor of our Montgomery days, we have changed "move on back" to "take a seat" and added, "Rosa on the bus says, I'll sit here."

re being concerned about musical education, a special-ed law friend once put me in remedial music and made me a individualized music program. like so many IEPs (IMPs?), it was not followed.
